Streep is featured in the latest season of “Only Murders in the Building,” and Jordan starred in and directed the latest “Creed” installment earlier this year. “Priscilla” director Coppola is coming off the success of directing her Priscilla Presley biopic in October, while Winfrey is gearing up for the release of “The Color Purple,” the musical film remake of the 1985 movie, on Christmas Day.

Before the gala, A-listers and stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Eva Longoria, Demi Moore, Jared Leto, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o (and Selema Masekela), Salma Hayek, Selena Gomez, Natalie Portman, and Dua Lipa, graced the red carpet. The third annual event, held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, was co-chaired by Ava DuVernay, Ryan Murphy, Halle Berry, and museum trustee Eric Esrailian. The event is also an opportunity for stars to promote their films ahead of the Oscar season and post-SAG-AFTRA strike.

The 96th Academy Awards are scheduled to air on March 10, 2024, on ABC. The ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with nominations set to be announced on January 23. The 96th Oscars will commence one hour early, with the official show starting at 7 p.m. ET for the first time, as announced by ABC on Thursday. The official pre-show will also begin earlier, at 6:30 p.m. ET. Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the Oscars for the fourth time.

The hosting gig marks the second year in a row that Kimmel has hosted the Oscars, with him emceeing the 95th Academy Awards in March. The comedian also hosted in 2017, the infamous year of Envelopgate, and 2018.

The gala was a family affair for Streep and her four children, Grace Gummer, Mamie Gummer, Louise Jacobson, and Henry Wolfe. Grace Gummer’s husband, music producer Mark Ronson (who scored the Grammy-nominated “Barbie” soundtrack), and her only son’s wife, Tamryn Storm Hawker, were also part of the group.

Streep’s husband, sculptor Don Gummer, was not pictured; the two have reportedly been separated for six years amid their 45-year marriage.

In October, Nyong’o sparked rumors that she and Masekela broke up after posting on Instagram about being in “a season of heartbreak. “The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star wrote that she felt compelled to share a “a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust.” Her heartbreak, she added, is due to “a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.” The two were all smiles at the Academy Museum Gala event.
